Belkıs Akkale (1956-2021) was a famous folk music artist born in Malatya. She worked as a voice artist at TRT for many years and became one of the most valuable voices of Turkish folk music.
She performed Malatya folk songs and melodies compiled from all over Anatolia with her unique interpretation. Known especially for her mastery in uzun hava and laments, Akkale made important contributions to Turkish folk music.
Belkıs Akkale, who added hundreds of folk songs and sayings to her repertoire, dedicated her life to preserving and spreading traditional music.
