Birth and Child Traditions in Malatya

In traditional Malatya culture, birth is seen as one of the important transition periods of human life. Birth, postpartum period, fortieth day ceremony, cradle preparation and some beliefs about protecting the child are included in folk culture.

In sources, it is mentioned that a woman who has just given birth is called "loğusa" or in regional use "Dığasken". Practices such as feeding the postpartum woman with molasses kuymak are also included in traditional narratives.

Such practices are one of the rituals seen in traditional culture and continue to exist partially, albeit changing, today.
